ABOUT

ABOUT

Located in the heart of the Ria Celestun Biosphere Reserve, Casa Colibri awaits. Only a 10 minute walk from the fishing village of Celestun, Casa Colibri is on the western shore of the Yucatan peninsula in the state of Yucatan, on a stretch of beach where the sunsets are sublime. Made famous by the 20,000 flamingoes living and breeding here each winter, it is also known for dozens of other species of migratory and indigenous birds that call this area their winter home. Join them!

Use Casa Colibri as a jumping off point to explore the reserve. Discover nearby Mayan ruins. Enjoy seaside Yucatecan cuisine. Kick back with a book on a terrace overlooking the courtyard or find a secluded spot on the beach or somewhere out on the grounds. Enjoy the butterflies and colibri (hummingbirds) in the courtyard. Mexico is home to about 50 species of hummingbirds, and you'll find many of them here. People come from the world over for the birding. Swim in the gulf. Hike for miles along the beach. Or simply relax and enjoy the perfect climate of this seaside paradise.                                                                                 Welcome to Casa Colibri!

OUR SERVICES

OUR SERVICES

Guest Kitchen

A fully appointed kitchen is available for all guests. Have a potluck with other guests. Host a party. Strike out on your own. Many excellent, inexpensive food options can also be found in the village, a 10 minute walk down the beach, or for 33 pesos take a trici (motorized tricycle.)

Free Wifi

Because after all, where would we be without it? We have the highest speed available in Celestun, with access everywhere in the building.

Gardens

The property features extensive gardens, both formal and informal, on a full hectare (2.47 acres) of land. From the moment you step inside the gate you're in a world apart. Explore! And remember the camera!

Weekly Housekeeping

Casa Colibri is very much self-serve, but won't it be nice to have someone step in to clean up and replace the sheets and towels once a week?  Additional service upon request.

Courtyard

All rooms open onto one of four expansive terraces, and all but one of the terraces look out onto the courtyard. It is both the social and aesthetic focal point of the property, and lies literally at its heart...lovely and serene.

Commons
The large public space where you enter the building  is a gathering place where you might find Pilates or yoga classes, or salsa dance lessons. Join in, or plan and host an activity of your own interest.

SEE & DO

SEE & DO

Leisure Activities

Swimming, kayaking, lounging along the terraces overlooking the courtyard. Pilates classes, salsa dance lessons. Massage on a weekly basis on  site, or schedule a time that better fits your schedule. Have a chat with the other guests--they tend to be a friendly lot. Either on the way in or out, you'll want to check out Merida, the "big city"  you will fly into when you visit.

Horse Riding

Ride real, live, horses...along the beach!

Flamingo Tours

"Flamingoes, flamingoes, flamingoes!"  When you enter Celestun during the day, this is the chorus that will greet you. Tours can be arranged on the beach, at the river, or at the house.

Cultural Sites

Numerous Mayan ruins are an easy day trip from the house. If modern Mayan life and culture are more of interest (yes, despite what the history books say, they're still here!) there are many nearby villages to explore, each with its own unique crafts and products.

Birds Safari

Any walk around the grounds is a bird and butterfly safari, but you can also arrange for guides to take you out into the "montes" or local jungle to get a view of the wild side of the reserve.

Crocodile Farm Tour

Hunted nearly to extinction for their hides, Morelet's crocodile is back. A nearby farm raises and releases these gorgeous reptiles. In return, they can process the animals. Have crocodile for lunch and purchase wallets, bags, and shoes made of their soft, durable hide.
